OSUN POLL: POLICE SUMMON APC SENATOR FADAHUNSI OVER VIRAL ‘KILL ACCORD’ COMMENT

The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his now-viral comment to “kill Accord” members.
The invitation follows widespread outrage over comments allegedly made by the senator during an All Progressives Congress campaign in Ilesa, where he was heard instructing supporters to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party during the electoral process.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, seen by Hotjist, the police invited Fadahunsi to “clarify the circumstances” surrounding the statements.
The letter, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, the Commissioner of Police, Elections, in Osun State, directed the senator to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11am.
“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter read.
‘I MEANT KILL THEM WITH VOTES’
In a video shared on X on Tuesday, Fadahunsi, who spoke in Yoruba, was heard calling on APC supporters to attack members of the Accord Party.
“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” Fadahunsi had said.
The comment triggered widespread backlash, prompting the senator to issue a clarification, insisting that his remarks had been misinterpreted.
Fadahunsi’s media team said the viral comment was “a call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful, and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the team said in a statement titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence.”
Meanwhile, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, has repeatedly accused the APC of using thugs to attack and kill his supporters.
