The governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday dissolved the State Executive Council, which is the top decision–making group in the state, before his second term starts on Friday, October 16.

He made the announcement during a farewell meeting with SEC members at the Executive Council Chamber in the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti.

Even though the council was dissolved, certain key officials were not affected.
These included the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Habibat Adubiaro; the Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo; and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode.

A statement from Oyebode explained that the dissolution is part of the process to close down the first–term administration, which officially ends on Thursday, October 15.

Oyebanji thanked members of the cabinet “for their meritorious service and contributions to the development of the state. The government and people of Ekiti State owe you a debt of gratitude for your commitment and selfless service.”

The governor particularly thanked God for graciously preserving the lives of all the cabinet members, adding that he did not take the grace for granted.

According to the CPS, during the final meeting before the end of their term, the commissioners and special advisers took turns thanking the governor for letting them work in his administration. They also shared their thoughts on their time as part of the state‘s top decision–making group.

The cabinet members commended Oyebanji’s leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to the development of Ekiti State, pledging to continue contributing to its progress in other capacities.

Recall that the governor had late last month dissolved the boards, commissions and parastatals in the state, as well as terminated the appointments of political appointees.

Oyebanji was first inaugurated as Governor of Ekiti State on October 16, 2022. Following his re-election on June 20, 2026, his second-term inauguration is scheduled to hold on Friday, October 16, at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.
