OYO 2027: CIVIL SERVANTS WAIT UP TO 10 YEARS FOR ENTITLEMENTS – ADC GUBER CANDIDATE

The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Chief Adegboyega Adegoke, has alleged that retired civil servants in the state often wait between seven and 10 years before receiving their gratuities and other retirement benefits.
Adegoke also claimed that many retirees spend several months waiting to be enrolled for pension payments after leaving service.
He described the situation as unfortunate and expressed concern over what he characterised as delays in the payment of retirement entitlements.
The ADC candidate made the remarks on Monday while addressing residents and party members in Oyo East, Oyo West, Atiba and Afijio Local Government Areas of the state.
The gathering was attended by hundreds of ADC leaders, chieftains and supporters from the four local government areas.
Adegoke criticised what he described as an outdated system for processing pensions and gratuities in Oyo State, saying it was responsible for the prolonged delays experienced by retired workers.
He argued that retirees who had dedicated years to public service should not be forced to wait for several years before accessing their legitimate entitlements.
According to him, the practice of making retirees wait years for gratuity payments must be discontinued.
Outlining his proposed reforms, Adegoke said retirees would be enrolled into the pension system immediately after retirement under his administration.
He said preparations for gratuity payments would also begin before an employee’s retirement to ensure that the retiree could access the benefit without unnecessary delays.
Adegoke said, “It is sad that retired civil servants often wait for seven to 10 years before they receive their gratuities and several months before they are enrolled for pension. We will change all that.
“Before retirement, the process of gratuities would have started so that they can immediately benefit upon retirement. Also, a few months to retirement, the process for placement on pension payment will be worked out and upon retirement the retirees would immediately enjoy their pension.”
He maintained that reforming the pension and gratuity payment process would help improve the welfare of retired civil servants and restore confidence in the state’s public service system.
