OYO FAMILY REJECTS ALLEGED IMPOSITION OF MOGAJI BY OLUBADAN

The Olufadegin family of Alekuso in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of Oyo State has accused the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, of attempting to impose Mr. Fatai Omosanjo Amzat as the family’s Mogaji, warning that the move could spark unrest within the lineage.
The allegation was made in a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan by Elder Dauda Adesina on behalf of the family. The family appealed to the monarch to remove Amzat’s name from the list of proposed compound heads slated for installation, insisting that the selection of a Mogaji is solely the responsibility of the family.
According to the statement, the last Mogaji of the Olufadegin family was the late Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, the Seriki Musulumi of Yorubaland, who passed away on April 4, 2025.

Adeojo was also a former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State.
The family explained that following Adeojo’s death, Akeem Adeojo and Fatai Omosanjo Amzat contested for the vacant Mogaji position.
It said Akeem Adeojo emerged victorious in the first election conducted under the supervision of the Mogaji Committee, but Amzat rejected the outcome, leading to a second vote, which ended in a tie.
According to the family, plans for a deciding third ballot were allegedly abandoned after one of the family elders, Lateef Busari, attempted to influence the process in favour of Amzat.
The family alleged that Busari expressed his intention to leverage his relationship with the Olubadan to secure Amzat’s emergence as Mogaji.
It further claimed to have been surprised when Amzat’s name appeared on the list of compound heads scheduled for installation, rather than the monarch inviting both contenders and family members to resolve the dispute.
The family maintained that imposing a Mogaji contradicts Ibadan’s traditional process and urged the Olubadan to allow the family to determine its own leader.
It appealed to the monarch to withdraw Amzat’s name from the installation list to prevent a possible crisis within the Olufadegin family.
The statement also alleged that the Olubadan-in-Council had already concluded the list of Mogajis before the monarch allegedly sought to include his preferred candidate.
The family further suggested that the development could be linked to the monarch’s longstanding political differences with the late Yekini Adeojo, urging him not to allow past political disagreements to influence the family’s internal affairs.
