POCACOV EXTENDS ANTI-CULTISM CAMPAIGN TO OGUN YOUTHS, SECURES COMMITMENT AGAINST VICES

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has extended its nationwide youth sensitisation campaign to Ogun State, engaging hundreds of teenagers and young adults at the Royal Ambassador Ogun Baptist Conference, Ephphatha 2026.

The programme was led by the State POCACOV Coordinator, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, in line with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu’s, vision of strengthening preventive policing through youth-focused initiatives.

In a statement on Monday, the command said the campaign was aimed at educating young Nigerians on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and gang violence, which continue to pose threats to safety in schools and communities.

During the interactive session, the POCACOV team highlighted the consequences of cultism and other social vices, stressing that involvement in such activities could destroy young people’s prospects and undermine peace in educational institutions.

The officers shared real-life examples of how cultism, substance abuse and internet fraud had derailed the ambitions of young people. They encouraged participants to embrace self-discipline, positive peer influence and personal responsibility.

The youths were also urged to regard themselves as important stakeholders in nation-building and become ambassadors against social vices in their schools and communities.

At the conclusion of the programme, participants took a collective pledge to reject cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and other social vices while promoting responsible and ethical leadership within their communities.

The command said the initiative forms part of POCACOV’s national mandate to promote community policing and preventive education among young Nigerians.

It reaffirmed its commitment to sustained youth engagement, crime prevention and efforts to build safer communities across the country.
