The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Mukaila Adeyemo, over the alleged defilement of a minor on two occasions in Ikire town.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, alleging that the suspect assaulted the victim despite being a friend of her grandmother.

According to the statement, Adeyemo allegedly committed the first offence in September 2026 after luring the girl to his residence under the pretence that he needed her to purchase some items.

Ojelabi said the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim again on October 2, her birthday, after she visited his workshop in the Ilupeju area of Ikire.

The statement said the suspect gave the girl ₦1,000 as a birthday gift before asking her to buy biscuits for him, which she later took to his workshop.

It added that Adeyemo allegedly dragged the victim into a nearby bush and assaulted her.

According to the police, the suspect fled when he realised that passers-by had seen them.

The statement further said the passers-by found the victim, asked what had happened and pursued the suspect before arresting him and handing him over to the police.

“The suspect, one Adeyemo Mukaila, is a friend to the victim’s grandmother and often visits her at home, as the victim stays with her grandmother,” the statement said.

The police urged residents, particularly parents and guardians, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency channels.

In a related development, the Oyo State Police Command recently announced the arrest of a 17-year-old male, Usman Dauda, over the alleged defilement of a three-year-old girl in Saki.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, the arrest followed a distress report lodged at the Saki Divisional Police Station on September 17, 2026, at about 6pm, after the child was reported missing.

Ayanlade said a search operation led to the recovery of the child by the roadside in a distressed state.

Preliminary inquiries reportedly indicated that the suspect had forcefully taken the child into his apartment, where the alleged offence occurred.
