The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered stolen valuables worth millions of naira following a robbery at Birshi Gandu, on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis.

The arrests followed a distress report and a coordinated operation involving police operatives and community members.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, four residents of Birshi Gandu, comprising two men and two women, reported the incident at the E-Division on October 17, 2026.

The victims told the police that three armed men had invaded their compound, which houses Cozy Resort Hotel, while they were asleep.

The suspects, reportedly armed with knives and machetes, allegedly stole several valuables, including Samsung Galaxy S22 and S23 phones, a Redmi Note 14, iPhones, iPads, a Lenovo laptop, a Samsung tablet, power banks, AirPods, office identity cards and a driver’s licence.

The statement said police operatives from E-Division, Yelwa, worked with community members who tracked one of the stolen phones, leading to the arrest of two suspects.

The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Abdulshakur Adamu, popularly known as Dan Oga, from Jahun, and 21-year-old Rabiu Usman, from Sabon Layi, Bauchi.

The police said the suspects confessed to their involvement in the robbery during interrogation and disclosed that they had allegedly conspired with another suspect, identified as Kabiru, also known as KB, from Birshi Gandu, who is currently at large.

A search conducted on the arrested suspects led to the recovery of three smartphones, two power banks, a headphone and a USB cable, which the victims reportedly identified as their property. A sharp knife was also recovered as an exhibit.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.

According to the statement, the investigation is aimed at apprehending the fleeing suspect, recovering the remaining stolen items and ensuring the prosecution of those found culpable.

The commissioner commended the victims and community members for their courage and cooperation with the police, noting that the incident highlighted the importance of community participation in crime prevention.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to provide security agencies with credible and timely information to help combat crime.
