‘FRANCE IS BURNING’ — TRUMP LINKS PROTEST VIOLENCE TO IMMIGRATION

US President Donald Trump on Sunday blamed immigration for the violence that erupted during protests in France, calling on the country to tighten its immigration policies and strengthen border controls.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that immigration by people from different backgrounds had contributed to the unrest.
“France is burning! The immigration of people from an entirely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has shattered that once great country,” he wrote.
“Close your Borders and take control, before it is too late!” he added.
France was assessing widespread destruction on Sunday following violent protests a day earlier that resulted in the burning of a historic town hall and the arrest of about 1,800 people. The unrest has increased pressure on President Emmanuel Macron, with elections to choose his successor scheduled in six months.
Trump’s comments came a day after US Vice President JD Vance made similar remarks, linking the unrest to immigration and integration challenges.
In a post on X on Saturday, Vance criticised Western liberal governments for promoting diversity without adequately addressing questions of assimilation and cultural compatibility.
“I pray that France, a beautiful country of amazing people, will stop this madness before more of its landmarks burn,” he added.
Vance, who is considered a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2028, also linked the political implications of the unrest to the upcoming US midterm elections scheduled for November 3, in which Republicans are widely expected to face electoral challenges.
