POLICE IN KOGI INVESTIGATE DEATH OF TEACHER AFTER DISCIPLINING OF STUDENT

The Kogi State Police have started looking into the reported killing of a primary school teacher.The teacher was said to have been attacked after scolding a student in Olamaboro Local Government Area.
The police mentioned that the case of culpable homicide was reported at the Olamaboro Divisional Headquarters on June 25, 2026.
This information came from a statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat.
The statement said that during the early stages of the investigation, it was found that on June 18, 2026, a man named Abdullahi Ishaka, along with two women, went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka.
They attacked a staff member named Maryam Usman, who was 30 years old, for disciplining a student.
The statement read, “Preliminary investigation revealed that on 18th June, 2026, one Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, where they assaulted a staff member, Maryam Usman, aged 30, for disciplining a pupil.
“The victim sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention. She, however, passed away on 25th June, 2026.”
Afusat said that following the report, operatives of the division visited the scene of the incident and the deceased’s residence, where necessary documentation was carried out.
She added that arrangements were being made to convey the corpse to the General Hospital, Ankpa, for medical examination and an autopsy.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend them.
She said, “Upon their arrest, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and comprehensive investigation.”
