The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) has called on stakeholders in Nigeria’s energy sector to shift from policy formulation to decisive action aimed at attracting investment, expanding energy access and accelerating the country’s transition to clean energy.
The appeal followed the Solar & Storage Live Nigeria 2026 conference and exhibition held in Lagos, according to a statement issued on Thursday by REAN’s Head of Communications, Oisereime Lloyd-Dietake.
The two-day event brought together senior government officials, regulators, investors, development finance institutions, manufacturers and renewable energy companies to explore practical strategies for scaling up renewable energy deployment, strengthening energy security and building a more resilient electricity market.
Speaking at the conference, REAN President, Ayo Ademilua, described Nigeria’s renewable energy industry as being at a critical turning point, noting that solar power and battery storage have become essential components of the nation’s future energy mix.

He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, regulators, financial institutions, development partners and the private sector to unlock the sector’s full potential.
“The next phase of Nigeria’s energy transition must prioritise local manufacturing, affordable financing, technical capacity development, innovation, quality assurance and an enabling policy environment that encourages long-term private sector investment,” Ademilua said.
Also speaking, REAN Chief Executive Officer, Motunrayo Akinfala, acknowledged the progress made in developing renewable energy policies but maintained that the focus must now be on implementation.
“The time has come for us to move from talk to action. We have held the conversations, developed policies and built strong partnerships. Our priority now must be accelerating implementation, mobilising investment, supporting local businesses, enforcing quality standards and delivering reliable clean energy solutions that positively impact millions of Nigerians,” she said.
According to the statement, discussions at the conference centred on attracting long-term investment, introducing fiscal incentives, promoting local content, expanding state electricity markets, improving access to finance, strengthening local manufacturing, developing technical skills, ensuring product quality and harnessing battery storage to meet Nigeria’s growing electricity demand.
Participants also highlighted the need to eliminate substandard solar products from the market through stricter regulatory enforcement, improved certification systems, enhanced installer competence and greater consumer awareness.
The conference concluded with stakeholders pledging to deepen collaboration, strengthen policy implementation and create a more enabling business environment to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across the country.
REAN reaffirmed its commitment to working with government, regulators, investors, development partners and industry stakeholders to promote policies and initiatives that expand energy access, attract investment, generate employment and support Nigeria’s transition to a sustainable, resilient and inclusive energy future.
