Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, has exhorted women affiliated with the All Progressives Congress within Cross River State to amplify their grassroots mobilization efforts and dedicate themselves to consolidating electoral support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu urged the women to demonstrate their commitment through door-to-door campaigns, market outreaches, church gatherings and prayer meetings, stressing that political support must translate into votes at polling units.

During an All Progressives Congress women‘s strategic stakeholders‘ meeting convened in Calabar on Sunday, the First Lady initiated a telephone call, simultaneously exhorting attendees to cultivate unity, affection, and reconciliation in anticipation of the forthcoming elections.

Speaking alongside the Co-Director of Women Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Betta Edu, Tinubu challenged the women to organise their supporters at the grassroots and ensure effective mobilisation in their respective communities.

“Go back to your polling units and gather your people, beginning with your women. Let them begin to canvass, door to door, Church to Church, prayer meeting to prayer meeting, market to market, by your result we will know who is who,” she said.

She urged party members to put aside their differences and work towards a common electoral goal, calling on them to mobilise support for the APC at all levels.

We must vote APC top to bottom. Don’t confuse our voters. Everyone should vote for APC, double your mobilisation at this critical time, please, she said.

Tinubu assured the women of the party leadership  support, adding that their performance at the grassroots would be an important measure of their commitment.

Convened by the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, the gathering aimed to fortify the party‘s foundational structures within Cross River State in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Furthermore, Bishop Eyoanwan Otu, the spouse of the Cross River State Governor, exhorted members of the APC women‘s wing to foster unity and practice mutual forgiveness, emphasizing that such solidarity serves the paramount interests of the party.

She exhorted them to eschew personal animosities and steadfastly uphold their duties, irrespective of the absence of public acknowledgment for their endeavors.

“Whatever it is that has been bothering us, whatever we think has been our pain, let’s bury the hatchet and move on,” she said.

Otu encouraged the women to remain consistent in their efforts, saying their commitment to doing what was right would eventually produce results.

She concluded by asserting that, regardless of their approval or affection, or their opinion of one’s appearance, one must persist in one’s course of action; by steadfastly adhering to the right path, consistency inevitably yields the desired outcome.

The governor‘s spouse further underscored her humanitarian initiatives within the health sector, revealing that her medical outreach program has successfully completed twelve editions over the course of three years, during which more than 2,000 surgical procedures were performed.

She stated that these interventions were designed to meet the healthcare requirements of vulnerable residents while supplementing the state government‘s initiatives in service provision.

“Health constitutes the bedrock of prosperity. Acknowledging that the Governor, engrossed in the intricate demands of governance, administrative oversight, and the advancement of structural development, cannot maintain a ubiquitous presence, it is imperative to establish a dedicated intermediary to bridge this critical gap,” she stated.

Otu further elucidated that her interventions were driven by an unwavering commitment to enhancing the well–being of residents, rather than any anticipation of public acclaim.

She additionally exhorted the women to disseminate the party‘s message across their communities, wards, polling units, churches, and commercial establishments, all while preserving the party‘s established political apparatus in anticipation of the forthcoming elections.

In addition to other agenda items, the gathering incorporated a dedicated empowerment initiative for women, drawing participation from the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly’s spouse, female legislators, commissioners, local government chairmen and vice–chairmen, councillors, political appointees, female candidates, and various female stakeholders across the state‘s eighteen local government areas.

In preparation for the 2027 elections, participants further deliberated on strategic measures to fortify the party‘s footprint across polling units, wards, and local government areas.

Cross River is among the states where the APC is strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 elections.

Amid Otu’s ascension to the governorship in 2023, the party is endeavoring to solidify its political standing within the state.
