The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected car thieves and recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla in the Ada George area of Port Harcourt.
The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a police officer attached to the Federal Road Safety Corps over a missing vehicle.
According to her, a joint team from the Electronic Central Motor Registry (ECMR) and the Special Operations and Intelligence Team (SOIT) launched an investigation, which led to the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.
The operation, carried out on November 7, 2025, resulted in the retrieval of the Toyota Corolla with registration number PHC 626 TX, after it was traced to the buyer. The suspects identified as Christian Ihuigwe, John Ebus, and Barnabas were arrested for their alleged involvement in the suspicious sale of the vehicle.
Iringe-Koko said verification by the rightful owner, Prof. Karibo Bagshaw, confirmed the car had been stolen from his daughter in December 2024 by their former Bolt driver.
She added that the suspects, along with recovered exhibits, have been transferred to the Special Investigation Department for further forensic analysis. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices believed to be at large.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the investigating officers and reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid security operations.
