RUFAI OSENI CAUTIONS TINUBU OVER WIKE AMID ATIKU, OBI POLITICAL MOVES

Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has urged President Bola Tinubu to exercise caution in his political relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Oseni made the call while reacting to Wike’s recent statement that he could become a target of opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, if Tinubu fails to secure a second term in 2027.
Wike made the statement during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, while explaining his decision to continue supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Thursday, Oseni questioned Wike’s concerns about possible political retaliation from Atiku or Obi.
He said Wike should not be worried about being “witch-hunted” if he was convinced that his political decisions and actions were justified.
Oseni also criticised Wike over his alleged role in preventing Atiku from campaigning in Rivers State during the 2023 presidential election.
“I don’t have problems with him not accepting to support Atiku, but what I have problems with is that he used his high-handedness as governor to ensure that Atiku did not campaign in Rivers State,” Oseni said.
He further questioned why Wike believed Obi would seek revenge against him, adding that the FCT minister should be confident about his past political actions if he had nothing to hide.
Oseni subsequently cautioned Tinubu about his political dealings with Wike, arguing that the former Rivers State governor could publicly reveal details of their relationship should they eventually fall out.
According to the broadcaster, Wike has a history of disagreements with former political allies and associates, which should make the President more cautious.
“The day he quickly falls out with President Tinubu, this Wike will talk, and he will talk very well,” Oseni said.
He urged Tinubu to ensure that whatever political arrangements or dealings he has with Wike are matters that could withstand public scrutiny.
Oseni also recalled Wike’s previous comments against political godfatherism, particularly during the crisis involving former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, and Tinubu.
He noted that Wike had previously criticised Tinubu over the political situation in Lagos, despite their current political alignment.
“This was the same Wike, if you remember, when Ambode was going back and forth with President Tinubu, he told him that we don’t allow godfathers in Rivers,” Oseni added.
The broadcaster said he knew individuals who were previously close to Wike but had subsequently fallen out with him, urging Tinubu to remain cautious in his dealings with the FCT minister.
Wike has remained at odds with Atiku since the 2022 PDP presidential primary, which the former vice president won ahead of the then Rivers State governor.
