SANUSI, BAYERO SET FOR SEPARATE ROYAL PROCESSIONS IN KANO

Kano is set to witness two separate royal processions on Sunday, September 27, 2026, as the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, are scheduled to hold separate traditional events.

Sanusi II is expected to lead the Hawan Babban Daki procession from his palace, Gidan Tunda, passing through Kofar Kwaru and Mandawari before proceeding towards Galadanci in the evening.

Meanwhile, Bayero is expected to leave his palace for his residence in Mandawari before embarking on the Hawan Fatahu Yakasai procession later in the day.

His procession is expected to pass through Kofar Kwaru to Unguwar Yakasai, where he will attend a Qur’anic graduation ceremony.

The announced routes for the two events include Mandawari and Kofar Kwaru, drawing attention as both processions are scheduled for the same day and are expected to take place around similar periods.

The overlap in routes is likely to attract attention, particularly as supporters of both royal camps may converge in some of the same areas. Security and residents will therefore be watching the events closely to ensure they proceed peacefully.

The development comes amid the longstanding dispute over the Kano Emirate following the reinstatement of Sanusi II by the Kano State Government.

Bayero, who has continued to lay claim to the emirate, currently operates from the Nassarawa Palace, while Sanusi II holds court at Gidan Tunda.
