SHETTIMA MOURNS EMIR OF GUMEL, DESCRIBES DEATH AS LOSS TO NATION

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has expressed condolences over the death of the Emir of Gumel, HRH Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, describing the monarch’s passing as a major loss to Jigawa State and Nigeria.

Shettima spoke on Friday during a condolence visit to Jigawa State, where he conveyed the sympathies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to the late Emir’s family, the Gumel Emirate Council, Governor Umar Namadi and residents of the state.

The Vice-President said the late traditional ruler belonged to a generation of monarchs whose responsibilities went beyond their palaces, particularly in promoting peace, education, community development and national unity.

According to Shettima, the Emir, who died in Cairo, Egypt, on September 3, 2026, after almost 46 years on the throne, left behind a legacy of wisdom, stability and dedication to duty.

He noted that the monarch’s reign, which began on December 16, 1980, witnessed major political and social transformations in Nigeria, but he remained committed to peacebuilding, Islamic scholarship, education and peaceful coexistence.

Shettima described the late Emir as a father figure and bridge-builder whose death had deprived the country of an important repository of history, experience and institutional memory.

He added that President Tinubu held the late monarch in high regard, particularly for his contributions to peace and community development.

The Vice-President assured the people of Jigawa that the Federal Government would continue to work with traditional institutions, which he described as important partners in promoting national unity and stability.

Shettima prayed for Allah to forgive the late Emir’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.

He also prayed for strength and comfort for the royal family, the Gumel Emirate Council and the people of Jigawa State to bear the loss.
