SHETTIMA REPRESENTS TINUBU AT 80TH UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN NEW YORK

Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Abuja for New York to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This was disclosed in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Vice-President, Mr Stanley Nkwocha.

According to the statement, Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the high-level general debate, scheduled to run from September 23 to 27 and conclude on September 29.

“Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja, Nigeria, to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, holding in New York, United States of America, from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025. Senator Shettima, who is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the global event, will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and join other dignitaries at the UN high-level general debates, among other side events,” the statement read.

Nkwocha added that the Vice-President will also announce Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement at this year’s UN special event on climate.

Shettima’s itinerary in New York includes bilateral and multilateral engagements on issues of national and global importance.

UNGA 80, which opened on September 9, features key events such as the SDG Moment on September 22, designed to showcase inspiring action on the Sustainable Development Goals.
