Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised the alarm over an alleged ongoing shooting in Ilesa, Osun State, days before the state’s governorship election.
Davido, who is a prominent supporter of his uncle and incumbent Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, made the claim in a post on his X account on Tuesday.
The singer said “serious shooting” was ongoing in Ilesa, amid reports that three members of the Accord Party had been killed.
The reported incident comes just four days before the August 15 governorship election, raising fresh concerns over the security situation in the state.
The development is particularly concerning given the series of election-related violent incidents reported in Osun in the months leading up to the poll. Recent reports indicated that the APC and Accord Party had separately alleged the killing of several of their members during the electioneering period.
However, the latest claim of three additional Accord Party members being killed in Ilesa had yet to be independently verified at the time of filing this report.
The alleged shooting also comes amid heightened security preparations across the state, with thousands of security personnel deployed ahead of Saturday’s election.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the incident, including the cause of the shooting, the identities of those reportedly killed and whether any arrests have been made.
The August 15 election is expected to be keenly contested, with Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salam of the African Democratic Congress among the major contenders.
The latest development has heightened fears among residents and political stakeholders over the possibility of further violence before, during or after the election.
