Former Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey has said Morgan Rogers is capable of stepping up if Arsenal secure his signature this summer.

However, Heskey noted that the move would be a major loss for Aston Villa, urging Unai Emery’s side to do everything possible to keep the England international at the club.

Rogers has been linked with a switch to the Emirates, and commenting on the speculation, Heskey said:

“He’s definitely ready for that step up.

“Villa are in a difficult position where they may have to sell players to balance the books.

“But I think they need to try and keep players like that. You can’t keep selling.

“When I was at Villa, Ashley Young left, Gareth Barry left, James Milner left, Stewart Downing left. They were trying to build something on top of that and compete, so it’s tough for them.”
