TROOPS ARREST TWO SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM OPERATIVES IN BORNO

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested two suspected Boko Haram operatives during a clearance operation along the Mandaragirau–Kurtum axis of Borno State.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a post on X, stating that the operation was carried out at about 10:00 a.m. on July 22 by troops of the 162 Amphibious Battalion in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), local hunters and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
According to the Army, the joint security team, operating with a gun truck and 10 motorcycles, conducted a sweep of the Mandaragirau–Kurtum route and extended the operation to the Nguma area as part of sustained efforts to flush out suspected terrorist hideouts and restrict insurgents’ movement.
During the operation, troops arrested two suspected Boko Haram members identified as 42-year-old Sidi Shagari and 25-year-old Abubakar Sadiq, popularly known as “Buba.” Both suspects are natives of Birni in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security operatives also recovered two mobile phones, three cutlasses, one dagger and N9,500 in cash from the suspects.
The Army said the suspects, along with the recovered items, have been taken to the Abogo Largema Cantonment for further investigation and other necessary actions.
It noted that the operation is part of Operation Desert Sanity V, a theatre-wide offensive designed to disrupt terrorist activities, dismantle insurgent networks and strengthen security across the North-East.
While describing the overall security situation in the theatre as relatively calm, the Army said the environment remains unpredictable, stressing that troops have maintained a high level of vigilance, with morale and operational effectiveness remaining strong.
