Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have eliminated several bandits and dismantled their hideouts in the mountainous areas bordering Zamfara State, particularly around Dangulbi and Kurawa villages in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
A security source disclosed the development on Saturday in Sokoto, noting that the operation recorded significant success during a coordinated offensive carried out on June 4 in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes.
The source said the troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, killing several of them, including suspected kingpins, while others escaped with gunshot wounds into nearby forests.
Weapons and motorcycles were also reportedly recovered during the operation.
“The swift response, professionalism, and courage displayed by our military personnel averted what could have been a tragic incident,” the source said, adding that the operation was conducted by personnel of the 8 Division under Operation Fansan Yamma.
Although details were not officially confirmed by military authorities, the source said the operation dismantled key bandit enclaves in the area and disrupted their activities.
The Special Adviser to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Security Matters, retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, alongside other residents, commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained efforts and operational successes against banditry in the state.
Security sources added that the tempo of operations would be maintained to ensure continued pressure on criminal elements operating within the region
