On Wednesday evening, members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) met face-to-face at the Forum’s Secretariat in Abuja.

At the time this article was filed, the gathering included 15 governors, mostly from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The only opposition governors present were Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from Anambra State and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who was elected on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).

Journalists were not given access to the meeting’s agenda at the time of publication, but the governors had been facing President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform measures before the National Assembly for weeks.

The Tinubu administration’s new tax proposals have been the subject of intense controversy, harsh criticism, and strong opposition from a number of people, including the 36 state governors who are members of the National Economic Council (NEC).

Additionally, the 19 northern Nigerian governors have demanded that the laws be removed from the National Assembly and have categorically rejected parts of them.
