US STATE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES PORTAL TO REPORT VISA FRAUD

The department said the platform provides a convenient and reliable avenue for individuals to submit information that could assist authorities in identifying and investigating possible violations of US visa laws.
According to the State Department, information provided by the public has helped authorities identify and hold accountable tens of thousands of individuals suspected of visa fraud during President Donald Trump’s second term.
The department listed several activities that could constitute visa fraud, including submitting falsified documents or travel plans, sham marriages organised by brokers, the use of shell companies, fabricated employment offers and birth tourism.

It said such schemes are designed to secure entry into the United States through fraudulent means and could have implications for communities, the economy, American workers, national security and public safety.
The State Department added that its Bureau of Consular Affairs was intensifying efforts to detect and prevent visa fraud under the leadership of Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
It warned that individuals found to have violated US immigration or visa laws could face sanctions, including visa revocation and referral to law enforcement authorities for further investigation.
The department encouraged members of the public who have information about suspected visa fraud or misuse to submit their reports through its official online portal.
