The Federal Government has commenced the evacuation of 98 containers of electricity transmission equipment abandoned at Nigerian ports for between 14 and 20 years.
The Nigeria Customs Service disclosed that the exercise began with the release and evacuation of the first batch of 44 containers out of the 98 approved for clearance.
The flag-off ceremony took place on Friday at the ENL Consortium Terminal, Apapa Port, Lagos, with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, in attendance.
The move is aimed at recovering long-abandoned electrical equipment and making it available for use in strengthening Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure.
