The Imo State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped victim during an intelligence-led forest clearance operation conducted across parts of Owerri West Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out on 27 June 2026, was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, in collaboration with local vigilantes in the Nekede, Ihiagwa and Agbala axis.

It followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, conveyed through the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East geopolitical zone, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, aimed at strengthening internal security, dismantling criminal hideouts and denying criminals safe havens.

During the exercise, operatives successfully rescued an injured kidnapped victim, identified as Chinonaobi Uchegbulam of Ubaha Orodo, from a forest hideout. He was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

CP Bosso commended the operatives for their professionalism and bravery, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-driven operations to ensure Imo State remains unsafe for criminal elements.

The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via its emergency line, 0803 477 3600, encouraging continued public cooperation in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
