HOTJIST NEWS
The internal turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated sharply on Tuesday as the factional National Executive Committee aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, approved the expulsion of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.
The faction also endorsed the removal of former Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former National Vice Chairman, Bode George; and the party’s newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN.
The decision marks a dramatic follow-up to last Saturday’s contentious PDP national convention in Ibadan, where Wike and his allies were themselves expelled.
The fallout led to tense scenes at the party’s national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Tuesday, as rival factions arrived for separate NEC and Board of Trustees meetings slated for the same day.
At its meeting on Tuesday at the national secretariat in Abuja, the factional NEC also dissolved the state executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti, ordering the formation of caretaker committees and the conduct of fresh congresses.
In a communiqué read by National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu, the NEC stated, “The committee received a report from the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, highlighting breaches of Articles 58(1) and 59(1), including anti-party activities, defiance of court orders, and conduct that has brought the party into disrepute.
“NEC has approved the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against the following individuals: Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben N. Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, Bala Mohammed, Oluseyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enorden.
