A disturbing case of alleged domestic confinement has emerged in the Mpape area of Maitama Extension, Abuja, where a woman was rescued after reportedly being kept in chains and confined in a dark room by her brother for four years.

The alleged prolonged detention was said to have resulted from a deep dispute over a cement business they jointly established.

According to an eyewitness account, the brother allegedly claimed the woman was mentally unstable and kept her confined to stop her from demanding her share of the business.

The incident reportedly came to light when a resident fetching water near the compound heard unusual noises coming from a locked room. Concerned by the sounds, the resident alerted members of the community, who forced entry into the room and allegedly discovered the woman restrained inside.

She was subsequently rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment after reportedly losing the ability to walk due to the prolonged confinement.

The eyewitness also alleged that the woman’s daughter had gone missing and accused the brother of being linked to the child’s disappearance, raising suspicions of ritual-related activity. However, authorities have not verified the claim, and no official confirmation has been issued.
