Serero: I’m Ready To Play Any Role For Bafana Against Eagles

Bafana Bafana of South Africa forward, Thulani Serero, says he is willing to play anywhere that head coach Stuart Baxter wants him to play against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations clash will take place at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

Serero this week had his first full training session with Bafana after a year-long absence, with the Vitesse Arnhem man facing the wrath of the South African Football Association over comments made about his place in the squad last year.

Now though that all seems to have been put behind the people involved as ‘Cream’ looks to push his way into Baxter’s starting eleven for the clash with the Super Eagles, and he says that he’s pleased to be back in contention.
“It feels good being back in the country and seeing the guys, everybody in the squad. It’s been a nice welcome, I haven’t seen the guys in a while and it’s been nice catching up,” Serero told the media.

“I’m South African, and I love playing for my country. It’s nothing more than that, I don’t have to say anything else.”

Serero also spoke the about the conversation between him and Baxter before his call-up.
“There was a normal simple conversation and we understood each other. It was simple, and I’m here – that’s the most important thing. You can ask him what he said to me, but the most important thing is that I’m here and happy to be part of the team,”he stated.
“We shouldn’t make this about me, the most important thing is to win on Saturday. It’s not about me. We need to get the three points and qualify for the African Cup.”
The 28-year-old has played more as a defensive midfielder at Dutch club, Vitesse Arnhem and is willing to play anywhere for the team.
“It’s a different position, and I like to go more forward, but the way we play, we play from the back and the coach wants me to get the ball from there and make the team play. Sometimes I do go forward, but it’s about what the coach wants,” he added.
