NO HUMAN CASUALTY AS LAGOS FIRE SERVICE PUTS OUT FIRE OUTBREAK IN BALOGUN MARKET

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service was able to put out a fire outbreak that occured at the Balogun Market early on Thursday morning.

In a statement signed by the Director of the Service, Margaret Adeseye; she said “the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a serious Fire outbreak at 3/5 Gbajumo Street, Italian Plaza, Balogun, Lagos Island.

“The Fire Agency received a distress call at 23:54 hrs to Lagos Island, where a building used for warehouses and stores with multiple containerized shops were involved in Fire disaster.

“Two Fire Crews from the Ebute Elefun and Oniru were immediately mobilized to the scene while Alausa had since joined them to dounse the ragging Fire, which was met well alight on arrival.

“The Fire, however, involved a five storey building used for stocking and trading shoes, bags, jewelry and other combustible products. It started from the second floor and spread to the first, fourth and fifth floor where it has since been confined to.

“Officers of the State Fire and Rescue Service, LRU wing of LASEMA, Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Police are working to put out the Fire.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the cause of the Fire could be attributed to electrical upsurge as power was restored in the community following an earlier outage.

“Meanwhile, there was no report of death or injury at the time of this report while Firefighting is ongoing as the seat of the incident is inaccessible.

“The building is surrounded by container shops with metallic burglar proofs causing Firefighters to first engaged in cutting and breaking to gain access as structural designs of the terrain is so defetive.”
