As an executive producer for the production, she is also involved.

The singer-songwriter assumes the title character of Aisha, a prominent fashion designer in the US who, after a family loss, returns to her own country after a 10-year absence.

As she comes home, she discovers that things have changed. Tensions are rising and the violence has increased. She must learn to live with her scars and face the shame she left behind as she re-connects with her family, old friends, and her former love.

Savage says of making her acting debut, “This project was a complete labor of love that has been a dream of mine for a number of years. Performing as Aisha allowed me to be totally vulnerable and pushed me to express myself in a way that I’ve never done before. It was an honor to share my debut as an actress in a leading role with Meji whilst filming on the African continent with a cast and crew that I have immense admiration and respect for. I’m excited for the world to see this film.”

The musician not only acted in the movie but also served as executive producer and wrote and performed the soundtrack. Interestingly, the movie’s title matches that of her EP with the same name from 2021.

Principal photography for the film, which was shot in Cape Coast, Ghana, has over. Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde are all part of the cast.

With Comfort Emmanuel serving as the film’s writer, Meji Alabi serving as the director, and Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna serving as one of the executive producers, “Water and Garri” is a collaboration between Unbound Studios and JM Films.
