The 10th National Assembly’s leadership has been zoned by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee.

The zoning pattern reported to the NWC is as follows, according to a statement made on Monday by Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary: Senator Godswill Akpabio of the South (Akwa Ibom) is the Senate’s president. Senator Barau Jubrin of the North (Kano) is the vice president.

Others include the Deputy Speaker for the South-East, Hon. Ben Kalu (Abia), and the Speaker of the House of Representatives (North-West), Hon. Abass Tajudeen (Kaduna).

According to Morka, the revelation of the zoning plan came after the NWC met on Monday to discuss the results of discussions and meetings with Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, and other stakeholders over the zoning plan for the 10th National Assembly.

In order to ensure the support of the candidates for leadership posts in the National Assembly and party members around the country, he said that the NWC called for more and improved dialogue with the relevant stakeholders.

The party asked all Nigerians, including its leaders and members, to keep up their efforts for the country’s peace and advancement during and beyond the current period of leadership transition.

While this is going on, the South-East Senate Caucus has advised the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to be aware of the serious consequences of zoning and endorsing a candidate for the position of Senate President from the South-South without regard for the South-East. This is because doing so will undoubtedly serve as a recipe for injustice, which will lead to unrest.

The recommendation was included in a statement released by the caucus following a meeting in Abuja.

After the meeting, Senator Ifeanyi Uba read the communiqué to the media and stated that the lawmakers were pleading with the next president to be aware of the current situation in Nigeria and make sure that equality, unity, and fairness are maintained so that the nation may continue to prosper.

The leading South-East candidates for Senate President are Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu and newly elected Senator Dave Umahi.

Other prominent APC MPs are also vying for the speakership, including Ado Doguwa from Kano State and Yusuf Gagdi from Plateau State.

Second-term federal lawmaker Gagdi claimed that, in order to fulfill his objective, he is pursuing elected officials from other regions of the nation as well as from different political parties.
