OLUWO REACTS AFTER OBASANJO ORDERED SOME MONARCHS TO ‘STAND AND HONOR THE GOVERNOR’

Read Time:4 Minute, 55 Second

In what seem to be a desecration, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRosheed Adewale Akanbi, has expressed displeasure over the display by the Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at the commissioning of the 34.85 km Oyo-Iseyin Road and the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology’s Iseyin Campus, which houses the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources.

On Friday, the former Nigerian president, ordered some traditional leaders to get up and greet the Governor, while reiterating the superiority of elected officials under the Constitution.

Obasanjo who spoke in Yoruba, stated that despite the traditional rulers’ status, it was crucial for them to respect elders and those in positions of power.

According to him, doing this will enable the preservation of the Omoluabi culture of the Yorubas.

Meanwhile, Oba Akanbi, described the act as an intentional desecration and sacrilege against revered stools of Yorubaland.

He noted in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, and seen by Hotjist on Saturday that, there is a way respect is accorded to people of old age and position by monarchs while blaming those who stood in obeisance to such an ignoble and desecrating of traditional institutions from the old man.

He said, “I trust myself and my stool. At death, there are certain things my soul will not take let alone when alive, active and kicking. I only blame the monarchs who stood in obeisance to such an ignoble and desecrating of traditional institutions from the old man. Respects should be earned not demanded.”

“Traditional Rulers respect their subjects too. There is a way respect is accorded to people of old age and position by monarchs. Kingship is an institution of God. As such, relating with kings requires a high sense of modesty, courtesy and respect.”

“The display by the former president of Nigeria, General Obasanjo was an affront, an intentional desecration and sacrilege against revered stools of Yorubaland. An injury to one is an injury to all. Yoruba traditional rulers are not uniform men anyone can command at will. I don’t blame him, those Royal Fathers who stood up to obey such an embarrassing direction are to be blamed.”

“I’ve strong assurance that such will never happen in and some few monarchs I will not mention “Iwo kogba igbakugba”

“The show by the former general is condemnable. Yoruba traditional institutions demand an apology for the open desecration to molest and bring down the institution. He needs to prove himself as a core Yoruba man with an apology letter. Kings are not toddlers. We are fathers.”

“This action should be a great challenge to the Yorubas most especially the Royal Fathers. This is the result when monarchs joined Ogboni confraternity and became junior to a road side mechanical engineer or carpenter. As a responsible monarch, you don’t have to join any secret society where you may be controlled by a teacher or even a herbalist.”

In another Statement by Adejare Ibrahim from Oyo Alaafin, Chief Obasanjo’s act was described to be planned and deliberate as a result of a cold war between the former president and Olugbon of Orile-Igbon.

The statement reads, “Yesterday, the embarrassment meted at the entire traditional council of Oyo State, was not in anyway accidental. It was a planned and deliberate action by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.”

“Obasanjo purposely came to that occasion, to take his own pound of flesh on some of the kings who had offended him, in the past.”

“One of them is the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, who doubles as the Vice Chairman, of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.”

“Some months back, I listened to Oba Olugbon on Fresh FM Political Circuit, where he berated Baba Obasanjo about his open preference and support of Peter Obi, against Bola Tinubu.”

“Mayor Isaac Brown would recall that incident. Mayor Brown anchored the programme.”

“In that interview, Oba Olugbon took a swipe at Obasanjo, for publicly opposing the presidential aspiration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

“He also taunted him and threw a slight verbal jab at him, by saying that Baba Obasanjo was becoming senile. I am cocksure that some of Baba Obasanjo’s loyalists would have played that audio clip to his hearing.”

“In adding insult to Baba Obasanjo’s festering injuries after the inauguration of President Tinubu, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, in the company of some prominent Oyo State Citizens, was the first traditional ruler to pay a solidarity visit to President Tinubu in the Villa. I can remember that our own Professor Adeolu Akande was also, in that entourage.”

“With Baba Obasanjo, in his petty and non-forgiving spirit, was battle-ready for reprisals, especially on the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon. He did not act without a purpose. It was a deliberate attack, aimed at ridiculing those traditional rulers.”

“However, Chief Obasanjo should have been more clinical in his crude approach. He ought not to have vented his beastly anger on the entire members of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs. He should have been bold enough to direct his attacks, at the person of the Olugbon.”

“Nevertheless, one thing that I am very sure of, is that the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, being an astute and dexterous public analyst, would sure reply Obasanjo’s thrown punches. He knows how to get back at Baba Obasanjo. He won’t let go.
I trust the Olugbon on that. He is a dogged fighter, who has mastered the art of throwing back lethal punches at his traducers and adversaries. It is only a matter of time, Baba Obasanjo will hear from him.”

“In Yoruba language, we say “kannakanna n’omo ega, ija n’bo”. Baba Obasanjo is on a long-drawn battle with the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, who is an astute fighter, just like Baba Obasanjo.”

“We shall all see where this cold war between Baba Obasanjo and Olugbon would end.”
