ACTRESS AZEEZAT SHORUNMI LOSES VOCAL CORDS DURING MOVIE ROLE

Popular Nollywood actress and producer, Azeezat Shorunmu, has opened up about the heartbreaking incident that left her vocal cords permanently damaged.
Once known for her distinctive voice on screen, Azeezat revealed that the incident that altered her voice forever happened on a movie set. During a recent interview on the media, she recalled being overwhelmed with emotion upon hearing that fellow Actress Surutu had lost her child on the very morning they were set to begin filming.
Under intense emotional distress, Azeezat said she screamed in anguish, and that moment marked the beginning of her vocal loss.
Recounting the experience, she explained that she tried several remedies both medical treatments and spiritual interventions in a desperate attempt to restore her voice. Unfortunately, when it finally returned, it was no longer the same.
“Everyone knows this isn’t my real voice, she said.
Speaking further, she added:
“It happened while shooting the movie Apase. Mummy Surutu lost her child that same morning we were to start filming, and she had already been paid. I didn’t know what to do when I heard the news. In the middle of my shouting, I lost my voice.
“My voice stayed blocked throughout the production. Normally, that should last just a short while. But mine didn’t clear — it only got worse after four months. That was when I realized how painful it is to be voiceless. It hurts deeply when you want to speak, but you can’t.
“I tried everything, including using anointing oil. But when my voice finally came back, it wasn’t mine anymore. It came out small and cracked — and that’s the voice I’ve lived with ever since.”
