The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to the June 2024 murder of Liberty Radio staff member, Azubuko Nwakama, who was attacked and robbed at Panteka Market, Mpape, Abuja.

FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspects Mutari Lawal, 32, from Kano State; Dan’Asabe Ibrahim, 22, from Zamfara State; and Danjuma Ibrahim, 18, of no fixed address in Mpape were apprehended after more than a year of investigation.READ MORE:

According to Adeh, initial efforts to track Nwakama’s stolen phone, a Redmi 13C, failed as it remained switched off for over a year. A breakthrough came on August 2, 2025, when the device was powered on and traced to Lawal, who was promptly arrested.

“Mutari confessed to attacking and stabbing the deceased before stealing his valuables. He admitted taking the phone to Kano, keeping it off for a year, and switching it on in August 2025 to wipe data before returning to Abuja,” Adeh stated.

Lawal also named his alleged accomplices, Dan’Asabe and Danjuma, as participants in the crime.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, praised the officers for their persistence and warned criminal elements to desist or face the full weight of the law.
