The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has confirmed that it has reported the case of a missing female student to the police, appealing for public assistance in locating her.

In a statement on Sunday, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, identified the student as Dorcas Oseghale, from the Department of Chemistry, with Matriculation Number CHM/2021/165.

According to the university, Oseghale was last seen on the evening of August 6, 2025, at about 8:00 pm.

Olarewaju said the university’s Security Unit began monitoring discussions on a students’ social media platform around 3:00 pm on August 7, after receiving a report of her disappearance. By 6:10 pm the same day, a group of Chemistry students, accompanied by Oseghale’s roommate, Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice from the Department of Agricultural Extension, formally lodged a missing person report at the Security Unit.

Due to the complexity of the case and limitations in human and material resources, the university dispatched three security personnel to lead the students’ search efforts and forward preliminary findings to the police.

Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, commended the students for their swift action in raising the alarm and reporting the matter promptly.

He urged the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to locate Oseghale, while appealing to members of the public with useful information to contact the nearest police station or the university’s Security Unit.
