NEMA DELIVERS RELIEF MATERIALS TO WINDSTORM VICTIMS IN AKWA IBOM

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) allocated assistance supplies to windstorm survivors in the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency of Akwa Ibom on Monday, as part of the Federal Government’s Special Intervention Programme.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the distributed items comprised: 300 bags of rice (25kg), 300 bags of garri (25kg), and 150 cartons of spaghetti.
Other items distributed are: 30 cartons each of vegetable oil, tomato paste, and seasoning cubes, as well as 30 bags of iodised salt.
In her statement, Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni, NEMA Head of Operations in Akwa Ibom, expressed her condolences to the victims for their bereavement.
Aisueni, who was represented by Mr. Awoji Augustine, Assistant Chief Accountant at NEMA, encouraged the community to graciously accept the assistance extended by the federal government.
She noted that this initiative was intended to provide immediate relief to the victims as they endeavor to reconstruct their lives following the calamitous windstorm.
“It is with a blend of sorrow and hope that we gather here today, mourning the significant ramifications of the recent windstorm, yet optimistic as we unite to offer essential support to our fellow community members.
“The repercussions of the windstorm have profoundly affected these neighborhoods, disrupting properties and livelihoods, leaving many in dire circumstances.
“Today, we are distributing these relief supplies not merely as a token of support but as a testament to our collective humanity and dedication to your recovery,” Aisueni remarked.
She further emphasized that long-term recovery necessitated collaborative efforts and assured that the agency would persist in partnering with stakeholders to ensure the safety of all individuals in the region.
On his part, the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Rep. Unyime Idem, expressed profound gratitude to NEMA and the Federal Government for their prompt response.
Idem, represented by his Chief of Protocol, Mr. Nsennam George, praised the agency’s unwavering assistance for disaster victims in Akwa Ibom and beyond.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mrs. Grace Udosen expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and conveyed her pleasure regarding the initiative.
He stated, “The relief supplies will significantly alleviate the impact of the disaster. ”
