US WARNS NON-CITIZENS: VISA VIOLATIONS COULD LEAD TO REVOCATION AND DEPORTATION

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
The United States Embassy in Nigeria has reaffirmed its strict zero-tolerance stance towards non-citizens who breach U. S. regulations, cautioning that violators face the possibility of visa denial, visa cancellation, deportation, and potential disqualification for future U. S. visas.
In a statement posted Monday on its official X handle, @USinNigeria, the Mission cautioned that being arrested in the United States could trigger immediate immigration consequences.
The notice, disseminated with the hashtags VisaWiseTravelSmart and USVisa, emerges as numerous Nigerians, particularly scholars, prepare to embark on journeys to the United States for the upcoming academic year starting in September.
The full statement reads, “Should you be apprehended, your U. S. visa may be annulled, you could be deported, and you may become ineligible for future U. S. visas,” as articulated by the Mission.
Furthermore, it emphasized: “The United States exhibits zero tolerance for non-citizens who infringe upon U. S. laws. Those who contravene the law, including students, may encounter visa denial, visa annulment, and/or deportation. ”
U. S. officials have consistently asserted that the issuance of a visa does not ensure an unrestricted stay, highlighting that visitors are required to adhere to the terms and duration of their visa.
This recent admonition highlights the necessity for Nigerians traveling to the U. S. to familiarize themselves with local legislation and to refrain from any behavior that could endanger their immigration status.
