INEC RECORDS OVER 69,000 ONLINE PRE-REGISTRATIONS IN 7 HOURS, BEGINS PHYSICAL CVR AUGUST 25

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 69,000 Nigerians successfully pre-registered online within the first seven hours of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which commenced today, Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, mni, the online portal went live at 8:30 am, and by 3:30 pm, a total of 69,376 Nigerians had completed their pre-registration.
“The registration portal went live at 8.30am, but by 3.30pm, just seven hours later, as many as 69,376 Nigerians pre-registered online.
“Of this figure, 33,803 (48.7%) were male, while 35,573 (51.3%) were female. Young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 accounted for the majority, with 48,033 (69.2%) registrations recorded.”
The registration portal, accessible via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org, will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
INEC further disclosed that in-person registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, across its 811 state and local government offices nationwide, operating from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on weekdays. This option will cater to new registrants as well as those who had pre-registered online and need to complete the process. Both online and in-person registration will run concurrently throughout the exercise.
“Meanwhile, the Commission is set to commence the in-person registration option on Monday 25th August 2025 at our 811 State and Local Government offices nationwide from 9.00am – 3.00pm during weekdays (Monday to Friday) only.
“This will enable those who prefer the in-person option to register and for the online pre-registrants to complete their registration. The two options will proceed simultaneously throughout the duration of the CVR as indicated in the schedule earlier released by the Commission.”
The Commission also announced that from next week, it will release weekly updates on the CVR, with detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status.
INEC reminded the public that voter registration is strictly for Nigerian citizens who are at least 18 years old and not already registered.
It cautioned that double or multiple registrations remain a violation of the law, although transfers and replacement of lost or damaged voter cards will be accommodated during the exercise.
