Aliyu Abbati, a senatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa Central, has said that the choice of candidates ultimately lies with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and other party leaders.

Speaking in Yola on Sunday during a media chat, Abbati emphasized that APC leaders under Fintiri’s guidance would select candidates best positioned to deliver electoral victory for the party. He stressed his loyalty to the party, noting that aspirants would abide by whatever decision party leaders and key stakeholders reach.

He described the contest as one that would not be a “do-or-die” affair, expressing hope that party leaders would consider him worthy among those seeking the Adamawa Central senatorial ticket.

Abbati said his ambition is driven by what he sees as the underdevelopment of the district, despite its vast potential in agriculture, human capital, and economic resources. He pointed to persistent challenges such as flooding, unemployment, weak infrastructure, poor healthcare, and limited economic opportunities.

According to him, his goal is to provide active and results-driven representation in the Senate—focusing on legislation, advocacy, attracting federal projects, and ensuring stronger government presence in the lives of constituents.

He added that an APC-led Federal Government presents opportunities for Adamawa State to benefit from development initiatives, including improved infrastructure, job creation, education, healthcare, and investment in livestock and agriculture. He cited institutions like NELFUND and the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development under President Bola Tinubu as examples of federal efforts that could benefit the region with proper representation.

Abbati also underscored the need for experienced lawmakers capable of engaging effectively at the national level to secure tangible results for their constituencies.

Currently, he remains the only declared aspirant for the Adamawa Central Senate seat, as the incumbent senator, Iyya Abbas, is pursuing a gubernatorial bid.
