A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kefas Ropshik, has expressed interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State, pledging to tackle insecurity and youth unemployment if elected.
Ropshik made his intention known on Sunday while speaking to supporters in his local government area, stressing that Plateau State urgently needs practical solutions to its worsening security and economic challenges.
The move comes amid recurring violent incidents in parts of the state, particularly in areas such as Mangu, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom, where communal clashes and land-related disputes have led to deaths and displacement of residents.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the PDP aspirant said the large turnout at the gathering though not an official declaration reflected strong public interest in his ambition.
He said he was encouraged by the support, noting that it demonstrated the confidence people have in his leadership potential.

On insecurity, Ropshik said restoring peace would be his top priority if given the mandate, describing insecurity as a major obstacle to development in the state. He pledged to introduce a community-driven security framework involving residents, traditional rulers, and security agencies working in collaboration to protect lives and property.
He emphasized that Plateau must become safe again for farmers, traders, students, and investors.
On youth unemployment, he said his administration would focus on skills acquisition, support for small and medium-scale enterprises, and the creation of an enabling environment for business growth. According to him, empowering young people is essential not only for economic development but also for reducing insecurity.
Ropshik also promised improved infrastructure development, including roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and other basic services, stressing that projects would be distributed equitably across communities to ensure inclusive growth.
He added that the enthusiasm at the event reflected a broader desire among Plateau residents for change and better governance, describing the aspiration as a collective push for a safer and more prosperous state.
