The Nigeria Police Force has repatriated a notorious Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to Beijing after his arrest in Abuja.

Qisheng, a gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for orchestrating violent organised crimes, fled his country in 2024 following a warrant issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County. He later sought refuge in Nigeria until operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja tracked, surveilled, and apprehended him on August 8, 2025.

Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi said in a statement on Sunday that Qisheng was repatriated to China on August 15 under the framework of police-to-police cooperation coordinated by INTERPOL, in collaboration with NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, described the operation as a strong message that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for international fugitives.

“This operation not only reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to ensure that no fugitive finds a hiding place within Nigeria but also reflects the strength of international partnerships in addressing the increasingly complex threats of global crime networks,” Adejobi quoted the IGP as saying.

He added that the police remain committed to strengthening intelligence-sharing and cross-border collaboration to ensure criminals cannot evade justice.
