The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men, Umar Usman, 24, and Auwal Mohammed, 22, for allegedly rustling ten cows in Maikwangi village, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson Ahmed Wakil confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, noting that the suspects were apprehended on August 14, 2025, following intelligence reports about cattle rustlers operating in the area.

According to him, detectives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters, working with other security agencies and led by the Divisional Police Officer, swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the two suspects in possession of the stolen cattle.

During interrogation, Usman and Mohammed, both residents of Magana district in Sabo LGA, Kaduna State, confessed that they conspired about a month earlier to raid a Fulani settlement in Gwamnare bush, Maikwangi village, where they rustled the recovered cattle.

Wakil appealed to members of the public, particularly residents of the Gwamnare bush area, to help trace the rightful owners of the recovered cows.

He added that investigations are ongoing, after which the suspects will be profiled and charged in court.
