The Kano State Police Command has issued a public safety alert following the collapse of the Yaryasa Bridge in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, caused by heavy rainfall.

The development was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna.

According to the statement, the bridge is a critical link connecting Kano to Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and other states in the eastern part of the country.

“In the interest of public safety, the Command has taken immediate measures to secure the area and prevent accidents. Barricades, detours, and warning signage have been set up to redirect traffic and alert motorists to the hazard,” Haruna said.

The Police Command added that officers from its Motor Traffic Division, alongside personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), and transport unions, are on the ground to manage traffic and guide motorists.

The collapsed area has been cordoned off, and motorists have been advised to strictly follow alternative routes to avoid danger.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged road users to remain patient, comply with traffic directives, and prioritise safety while plying affected roads.

He further assured that the police, in collaboration with relevant agencies, are working to mitigate the impact of the collapse on commuters and residents.
