FIRS MOURNS FOUR STAFF KILLED IN LAGOS FIRE INCIDENT AT AFRILAND TOWERS

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has confirmed the death of four of its staff members in a fire outbreak that occurred on Tuesday at Afriland Towers, Broad Street, Lagos.

According to a statement issued by the agency, the tragic incident, which engulfed the sixth and seventh floors of the building where the Medium Tax Audit and Onikan Emerging Tax Offices are located, has left the entire FIRS community in deep mourning.

FIRS explained that its security and safety officials promptly mobilized and contacted the fire service, but by the time emergency responders arrived, thick smoke had already overtaken the building.

“The Management and staff of FIRS extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. We honour the memory of our departed colleagues whose professionalism and dedication were exemplary,” the statement read.

The agency further assured that it is in close touch with the affected families and will provide all necessary support during this difficult period.

In addition, FIRS disclosed that it is reviewing and strengthening safety measures across all its offices nationwide, both rented and owned, to ensure the safety of its personnel.
