The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has commenced monitoring of schools across the state to ensure compliance with standards as students resumed for the 2025/2026 academic session.

According to a statement by OEQA spokesperson, Adepeju Adeyemi, the inspection exercise began on Monday and covers all schools below the tertiary level.

The Coordinating Director of OEQA, Remi Abdul, led the monitoring team to several schools, including Dolphin Senior High School, Lagos Island, where they were received by the Principal/Director, Comfort Agunlejika.

Abdul explained that the monitoring was to ensure compliance with the approved resumption date as contained in the harmonised academic calendar for 2025/2026.

Basic and secondary schools across Lagos resumed on September 15, 2025. The academic calendar indicates that the first half of the term will run from September 15 to October 31, while the second half will begin on November 10 and end on December 19.

The OEQA chief further disclosed that the monitoring team was also checking whether school administrators had held pre-resumption meetings and whether key teaching and statutory records such as lesson notes, diaries, and attendance registers were in place.

While addressing Senior Secondary School 3 students, Abdul urged them to take their studies seriously, stressing that their performance this term would determine their transition to higher education. He advised them to read well, stay focused, avoid missing classes, and begin early preparations for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Abdul also encouraged teachers to remain committed to delivering quality education in line with the government’s standards.
