The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing students of Excel College, Ejigbo, Lagos, engaging in drinking, smoking, and dancing inside their hostel.
The video, which surfaced online this week, was said to have been recorded in April 2025.
Its circulation has sparked outrage among parents, education stakeholders, and members of the public.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to take over the case from the Ejigbo Police Division.
Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the school’s principal, who also doubles as the proprietor, had been invited for questioning.
Adebisi noted that the principal told investigators the students involved in the incident had already graduated.
She, however, assured that the police would get to the root of the matter.
“The Command remains steadfast in ensuring peace, security, and orderliness throughout the state,” the statement read.
The police further urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to take proactive steps in supervising their children and wards.
According to Adebisi, “They are urged to instill in them the importance of maintaining good behavior, upholding moral values, and avoiding any form of misconduct or vices that may lead to public outrage or disruption of peace within academic institutions and the society at large.”
Investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the police have promised to make the outcome public once concluded.
