The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspects for allegedly vandalising a transformer at Government Girls Secondary School, Bunza, in Bunza Local Government Area.

The suspects were identified as Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, and Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi from Zamfara State.

They were apprehended following a swift operation by the Divisional Police Officer in Bunza and local vigilantes.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement on Saturday, said the suspects stormed the school premises around 3 a.m. on September 10, tied up the school’s watchman, and dismantled the transformer using chainsaws and other mechanical tools.

He said, “A black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN, believed to have been used by the suspects, was recovered at the scene, along with the vandalised armoured cable wires and tools used in the crime.

“While two of the suspects were arrested on the spot, further discreet investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, led to the arrest of the fleeing gang members.”

Abubakar added that the suspects are in custody and will soon be charged in court.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the professionalism of the Bunza DPO and vigilantes, while stressing the importance of community collaboration.

He assured residents that the Command is determined to “flush out criminal elements and create a safe environment,” urging the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid security agencies.

The arrest comes days after the Command nabbed six suspects in Ka’oje town, Bagudo Local Government Area, over the theft of gold ornaments worth more than ₦109.5 million.

That case drew attention after Ibrahim Abubakar, a serving officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, confessed to participating in the theft and conspiring with accomplices to launder the proceeds through land purchases.

Police say investigations are still ongoing to recover more stolen property and apprehend additional suspects.
