The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano Operations Office, has received 148 Nigerian migrants returning from Sudan as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safe repatriation of citizens stranded abroad.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the returnees arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Friday at about 14:30 hours aboard a chartered flight operated by Tarco Aviation.
The group comprised 25 men, 27 women, 39 male children, and 57 female children.
NEMA, in its statement, explained that upon arrival, “the returnees were transported to the Chila Hotel for profiling and documentation by relevant stakeholders.”
However, the agency clarified that “the returnees were not enrolled in any reintegration programme and were discharged and giving them transport fare by providing them with ATM card for withdrawals shortly after the completion of documentation and profiling.”
Describing the process as “well-coordinated and successfully executed,” NEMA noted that the exercise was carried out smoothly in collaboration with relevant partners.
The development comes as conflict in Sudan continues to displace millions and cripple essential infrastructure, leaving many Nigerians caught in the crisis.
The Federal Government, working with NEMA and international partners, has maintained efforts to support affected citizens, while other agencies such as the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have also played vital roles in rescuing Nigerians, particularly girls, from traffickers’ camps in Libya.
