The Ogun State Police Command on Saturday confirmed the arrest of one Fatai Quadri, who was captured in a viral video violently assaulting his wife, Rukayat Quadri, at their residence in Illese-Ijebu on September 15, 2025.
Quadri, who was seen delivering fist blows that caused bodily harm to the victim, was promptly apprehended by operatives of the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu Ode.
The spokesperson of the state command, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday.
Odutola said that, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the assault stemmed from a marital dispute arising from allegations of infidelity.
“The investigation further indicated that the suspect had transferred ownership of a 10-room en-suite apartment, jointly built with his wife, to another woman who provoked the violent attack.
“The victim is presently receiving medical treatment, while the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for domestic violence, warning that anyone found culpable of such acts will face the full wrath of the law.
The command also urged members of the public, especially victims of domestic abuse, to promptly report all forms of violence or threats to the nearest police station for immediate action.
“Silence only empowers perpetrators, but timely reporting ensures protection and justice,” the command stated.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Ogun State.
On June 23, 2020, it was reported that an unnamed official of the COVID-19 task force of the Ojodu Abiodun Local Council Development Authority, Ifo Local Government Area, was arrested by police after a viral video showed him assaulting a woman.
The woman, identified as Tolu Adesh, later recounted on X (formerly Twitter) how the task force officials extorted money from her family over an alleged violation of the lockdown order in Ogun State.
