‘MINISTRY ISN’T FREE’- TIM GODFREY BACKS GOSPEL ARTISTS CHARGING FEES

Gospel vocalist Tim Godfrey has advocated for gospel performers who impose fees for their appearances, asserting that ministry and professionalism can coexist harmoniously.

In a recent entry on social media, Godfrey emphasized that adequate remuneration is essential for the sustainability of a ministry, further asserting that charging for performances does not diminish an artist’s spiritual integrity.

Reflecting on his early experiences, the artist recounted instances where he was compensated with food items, such as tubers of yam and a live chicken post-performance.

He acknowledged, however, that circumstances have evolved, and artists warrant equitable financial acknowledgment for their efforts and contributions to the ministry.

He stated, “I find it disheartening to visit. Well, visiting Nigeria has become challenging due to the manner in which artists are treated so poorly.

“And I wish to address all those narratives regarding their charges. Why are they requesting payment? Why are they doing this? It infuriated me. I questioned why people can be so cruel.

“What rationale exists in expecting individuals to labor diligently while suggesting they should accept… I have received tubers of yams as honoraria. I have also received a fully alive, functioning, breathing chicken as honorarium.

“And that is what I am expected to utilize for paying tuition, settling rent, and acquiring property? No. That is profoundly unjust. That is completely unfair. ”
