The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has shut down a hotel in the state capital for allegedly accommodating underage girls on its premises.
Deputy Commander General of the board, Prof. Abubakar Usman Ribah, confirmed the action on Tuesday, explaining that it followed repeated violations despite prior warnings. The hotel was found to have breached regulations prohibiting the lodging of minors, an act deemed contrary to the moral and legal standards upheld by the board.
Ribah noted that the hotel had previously entered into an agreement with the Hisbah Board and other hoteliers to prevent underage children from staying in their facilities. “This is the second offence recorded at the Executive Hotel, despite previous warnings and assurances by management to desist from the practice,” he said.
The deputy commander general added that the closure was necessary due to the hotel’s failure to comply with board directives and agreements with state hoteliers. He stressed that the Hisbah Board would continue enforcing regulations aligned with Sokoto’s religious and cultural values to maintain public order and morality.
